Georgetown University Police (GUPD) say that students may be the targets of forthcoming robbery attempts and have urged students to be especially vigilant "this weekend and in the near future."
The warning comes in the wake of at least six reported burglaries on Georgetown's campus since January 23. Three of the burglaries occurred in McCarthy Hall, a residence for upperclassmen. Another took place at Copley Hall, also inhabited by upperclassmen. A fifth burglary took place at Harbin Hall, a freshman dorm, while the sixth victimized a teacher's office in the Medical-Dental Building. Authorities say the thieves are specifically targeting laptop computers, iPads, and cash.
Police have released a description of two suspects along with the warning. One suspect is described as standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap and a yellow-hooded and dark-blue jacket with silver reflective writing. The other suspect is described as being between 17 and 20 years of age, standing between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing about 140 pounds. His hair is in dreadlocks, and he was last seen wearing Oakley ski goggles, a black jacket and black jeans, and high-top sneakers.
GUPD has encouraged students to walk in pairs or groups and make use of the University's Safe Rides, shuttles, and security escorts. They have also asked that students lock their doors and windows in their residences.
Any suspicious behavior can be reported to GUPD by calling (202) 687-4343.
