Metro restored regular service around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, nearly three hours after a man was fatally struck by a Yellow Line train at Gallery Place.
Metro officials say they believe the victim intentionally jumped in front of an arriving northbound train around 8 a.m.
Transit police and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene. Metro first reported the incident to the public at 8:16 a.m.
Riders should expect residual delays in both directions on the Green and Yellow lines. Following the incident, trains were single-tracking between Archives and Mt. Vernon Square.
Yellow Line customers in Virginia should consider using the Blue Line as an alternative, Metro said.
This was the second such incident on Metro this year. On Jan. 7, a woman apparently jumped in front of a train in the Ballston station.
In 2012, five people committed suicide in Metro stations; six others attempted it, reports News4's Adam Tuss.
Metro says it's put up posters to encourage people to seek help if they need it. Metro is also training employees to recognize suicidal behavior.
