A four-year-old is in critical condition following a house fire that broke out in Southeast early Sunday morning.
Authorities say the fire began around 3 a.m. at 2616 33rd St. SE.
A spokesman for D.C. Fire/EMS told News4 that a four-year-old girl was rescued by firefighters from the upstairs bedroom and is in critical condition at Children's National Medical Center.
Two adults and another child were also taken to local hospitals for smoke inhalation.
It is not known if all four people were related, as the house is split into apartments. No other identifying information has been released.
Firefighters say the home did not have any fire stops, which allowed the flames to spread more quickly.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but fire officials confirmed to News4's Derrick Ward that the fire began in the basement.
D.C. Police also confirmed that a man was arrested at the scene of the fire and charged with simple assault and threats. No further details about the man or the charges were immediately available.
