New Voter ID Rules Advance in Virginia

Lawmakers in Virginia are considering changes in the state's voting law.

A state senate bill now under review would require voters to bring a photo ID to the polls. Under the new rules, if you don't have a photo ID, the state will give you one free.

The changes would help prevent fraud, proponents say.

Opponents compare it to a poll tax and say it would make it more difficult for minorities to vote.

The state recently spent $2 million on a campaign to let voters know they can use a utility bill or bank statement as ID when they vote.

Critics say to change the rules again so soon would be confusing.
