When a Woodbridge man heard someone had a $1 millon winning Powerball ticket, he never thought it would be him.

"It didn't even click," Michael DeFonde later said, according to Virginia Lottery.

Even so, he and his wife did get around to checking their tickets. But, sticking to his original train of thought, DeFonde could hardly believe it.

"I told my wife, 'I think you must be wrong. That can’t be us!'" he said.

The DeFonde's ticket -- purchased at the Mapledale BP in Woodbridge -- matched the first five numbers in Dec. 8's Powerball drawing: 7, 23, 26, 40 and 53. He didn't match the Power Ball of 21.

DeFonde said he plans to use the winnings to pay bills and to save for the future.

The lucky couple has a lot of company in Virginia right now. The commonwealth's seen seven $1 million Powerball tickets sold in the past four weeks.
