The Washington Capitals recalled goaltender Philipp Grubauer from AHL Hershey Wednesday.
According to senior writer Mike Vogel, Michal Neuvirth is ill, so Grubauer will fill in.
Grubauer is 6-4-1 with a 2.10 GAA and .928 SV% in 12 appearances with the Bears this season. The 21-year-old is Washington's top goaltending prospect; he went 19-5-1 with the Capitals' ECHL affiliate in Reading, Pa., during the NHL lockout and was selected as a starter for the league's All-Star Game in January. He was Washington's fourth-round draft pick (No. 112 overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
That being said, it seems all but certain that Braden Holtby -- who earned his second shutout of the season Tuesday in a 3-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at Verizon Center -- will start his eighth straight game Wednesday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
