There is encouraging news in the recovery of an Alexandria police officer who was shot in the head.

Officer Peter Laboy’s wife, Suzanne, posted an update on her husband’s condition using the online journal CaringBridge.org.

In an entry on Friday morning she writes, “I arrived today to find him moving his arms. I reached to his hand and he grabbed it. He pulled me to his chest and gave me a hug. He is amazing.”

Laboy remains in critical condition after being shot in the temple Wednesday while conducting a traffic stop. Doctors say the next day or so will be critical in his recovery.

Meanwhile, investigators are trying to figure out exactly when Laboy was shot. When our News4 crews arrived on scene, Officer Laboy’s motorcycle was upright. But when the first officer arrived on scene, Laboy was lying in the street and his bike was on its side. Police say that is why they originally believed he has been hit by a car.

The man accused of shooting Laboy, 27-year-old Kashif Bashir, has been charged with malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer and is being held without bond.
