D.C. Police have arrested three people after they were led on a chase through the city Saturday night.

The incident began at 11 a.m. Saturday, when police say a red Dodge Challenger was carjacked in the 500 block of 16th Street Northeast. At around 7 p.m., police saw the car and pursued it to the intersection of Interstate 295 and Benning Road, Northeast, where the car was stopped by traffic.

The driver of the car steered it onto the sidewalk, striking a police officer who was approaching the car on foot. In response, the officer's partner fired his gun at the car.

The suspects, described by police as two male juveniles and a female juvenile, continued to flee, eventually running on foot to the 500 block of 24th Street, Northeast, where they were caught. One of the boys had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The suspect and the officer who had been struck were taken to local hospitals, where they were treated and released.

The names of the suspects have not been released, because they are juveniles. The driver of the car has been charged with Assault with Intent to Kill, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Assault on a Police Officer. The other two have been charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle passenger and Assault on a Police Officer.

The shooting is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department's Internal Affairs Division.
