Thirteen people were injured in a drive-by shooting in northwest D.C. early Monday, News4's Pat Collins reported.

Authorities say people in two cars opened fire on a crowd in the 1200 block of N. Capitol Street around 2:10 a.m.

The crowd had gathered outside the Tyler House apartments around the time that the club scene in the area was winding down for the night. Police are considering the possibility that the shooting may have stemmed from an altercation in a nearby club, reported News4's Pat Collins.

Most of the victims -- seven men and six women -- were shot in their extremities and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, though one victim is said to be in critical condition, Collins reported. One victim was a teenager; the rest are adults. Previous reports stated 11 or 12 victims.

"We have mostly gunshot wounds to the legs, extremities, hands, some graze wounds..." said Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier. "[The victims] have been transported to a hospital for some sort of treatment."

The most serious injury was in a man who was shot in the back, reported News4’s Megan McGrath. Some victims may have been injured by glass from a bus shelter that was shattered by gun shots.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that some people in the crowd fired back at the drivers, McGrath reported.

Police spent the morning collecting evidence at a crime scene that stretches nearly a block. They had to wait until the sun rose to finish laying down at least 76 different evidence markers.

A section of N. Capitol Street was cordoned off from M Street to New York Avenue.

Lanier said that a few people were stopped near the scene and are being questioned by officers. They are still looking for two vehicles. One appears to be a silver sedan. The other was reported to be: a dark, older BMW, but after review of the video, police said it appears the vehicle may not be a BMW.

Police have released video footage of the shooting, including the vehicles of interest. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 202-727-9099.
