The northbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway were expected to remain shut down for several hours Monday following a fatal accident.
The single-car crash appened around 11 a.m. between Annapolis Road and Riverdale Road in Landover.
Authorities say a man was driving alone when his car left the roadway and hit a large tree in the median. He was extricated by firefighters and flown to a nearby trauma center, but died shortly after arriving.
It was not immediately known whether other vehicles were involved.
An accident reconstruction team is on the scene.
