An Acela Express train running from Washington to Boston was offloaded Saturday morning after a mechanical problem disabled the train.

An Amtrak spokesperson said that Acela Express train 2250 was disabled at New Carrollton Station in Maryland due to a mechanical problem. The passengers were offloaded and placed on Northeast Regional train 164, which was delayed approximately 25 minutes to accommodate the 163 passengers.

Amtrak said that other passengers who were due to board the train at Wilmington and Philadelphia were put on other trains to limit crowding on train 164. Even so, there were not enough seats to accommodate all of the new passengers.

A passenger named Sharon sent News4 this note via email.

"Acela people are grumbling; Northeast Regional ticket holders who paid extra for business-class are upset because there are either not enough seats in business or they could not get seats together."

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the mechanical problem. Customers were told to call 1-800-USA-RAIL regarding possible refunds.
