A Germantown couple is searching for the dog they rescued from Egypt after he escaped at Dulles Airport Wednesday.
Would-be owner David Scott said the dog was spooked by the noise of the airport and took off as he was loading him into the car.
While traveling with a friend of the family from Egypt, the dog had "been in the cage for 18 hours," Scott told News4. "With all the noise and everything, I probably should have known better, but I just wanted to get him out."
Scott said he tracked the dog, whose name is Ralph, across several parking lots until he lost sight of him. Scott spent hours searching the grounds of the airport Wednesday and Thursday.
Ralph is a tan lab/shepherd mix between two and three years old. He was living on the streets in Egypt when Scott's wife met him during a trip to visit family friends. Scott said Ralph was being fed by the family, but they couldn't take him in.
The Scotts had been trying to bring him to the United States for about six months, Scott said. They had to wait until a chaperone could travel with him.
Scott is hopeful Ralph will be OK until he's found. "He is able to fend for himself -- he made a living on the street," he said.
