That Time A Maverick Was Fined For Cheering The 'Skins

It's "Dallas Week" in D.C., so you know what that means: Watching reruns of "Who Shot J.R.?" (rest in peace, Larry Hagman). But if you're not into that, you can join me in spending the next several days reminiscing about the Redskins/Cowboys rivalry.

Today, I'm going to take you back to a simpler time: Dec. 18, 2005. Lance Armstrong, who had recently won his seventh consecutive Tour De France title, was full of integrity (because we didn't yet know that he was also full of performance enhancing drugs) and a new portmanteau -- "Brangelina" -- was permeating world culture at an unsettling rate

The Redskins had just defeated the Cowboys 35-7 and the Mavericks were about to tip off against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Before the game, guard Devin Harris grabbed a microphone and wished the crowd a happy holiday.

That is when another Armstrong -- journeyman guard Darrell, who was raised as a Redskins fan -- requested the mic to share a similar sentiment. Except that at the end of his, he exclaimed, "How 'bout those Redskins!" In Dallas. After the Redskins had just defeated the Cowboys. Did I mention that the game was in Dallas?

Yeah, that didn't go over well. Coach Avery Johnson fined Armstrong $1,000, with it all going to a charity of the Cowboys' choosing.

Armstrong did not return to Dallas after that season ended. Rumor has it Jerry Jones excommunicated him, but really, he was just old.
