Firefighters rescued a man from his burning apartment in Montgomery County Friday evening.
The fire broke out at around 8 p.m. in the second-floor apartment at 8606 Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park. Investigators say that the blaze was caused by an unattended pot of food that was left on a stove.
The 59-year-old man was pulled from the apartment and taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
In all, six apartments were damaged by the fire and 10 people were displaced. An initial damage estimate came in at around $500,000.
