A Maryland man was struck and killed while walking on the Beltway Thursday morning, and the driver fled the scene.
Police have identified the victim as Douglas Edward Diggs, 53, of Capitol Heights.
For unknown reasons, Diggs was apparently walking in the roadway on the Beltway's Outer Loop. He was fatally struck near the Landover Road exit in Prince George's County, around 3:20 a.m.
There was a car parked on the shoulder nearby, but authorities said it did not belong to Diggs.
Police say they have no leads on striking vehicle. They plan to post a message on highway signs seeking info.
Two lanes of the Beltway were closed for about three hours while authorities investigated.
