One woman has died as the result of a house fire in Cheverly Sunday morning.
Authorities say the fire broke out at around 8 a.m. in the two-story, single-family home in the 2400 block of 59th Place. According to News4's Derrick Ward, the fire was first spotted by a four-year-old who lived across the street.
Sources told Ward that the 60-year-old woman was found dead at the top of the stairs and had to be carried out through the window. A Prince George's County firefighter suffered a small second-degree burn to his hand and was taken to a local hospital.
Neighbors said that the woman worked for the Environmental Protection Agency and was an avid gardner and "Star Trek" fan who held parties for fellow fans in her home. Investigators said that hoarding conditions appeared to be prevalent in the home, though they did not specify any further.
An estimate of the damage was not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing. Prince George's County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor Tweeted that no working smoke alarms were found in the home.
