Virginia State Police are investigating a crash between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer on the ramp from the Capital Beltway ramp to I-95 that left three people dead and the ramp closed.
At about 7 p.m., a tractor-trailer was stopped in the travel lanes when it was rear-ended by a pickup truck. Three people in the truck were killed. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unhurt.
The cause of the crash is still being determined.
The ramp is expected to be closed for some time as the investigation continues. The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was also responding to the scene.
