The greater D.C. region may see some intense weather Friday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for the D.C. area until 10 p.m.
There is a risk of severe thunderstorms across eastern Virginia and Maryland with potential for supercell storms capable of producing tornados, according to the National Weather Service.
Some of the storms could produce damaging winds and very heavy rain, and that could lead to some localized flooding, Storm Team 4 meteorologist Tom Kierein said. Remember to never drive through standing water.
