A man was sentenced to life plus 20 years Friday for murder in Prince George’s County.
Marvin Tomlinson, 31, and four teenage boys were the victims of an armed robbery in District Heights, Md., in 2011. Tomlinson attacked one of the gunmen and told the teens to run, saving their lives but losing his own.
“He died a hero protecting the lives of four teenage boys,” Prince George’s County state’s attorney spokesman John Erzen said.
Dominic Givens, 22, was sentenced Friday for firing the shots that killed Tomlinson.
Tomlinson, a father and former children’s counselor, was posthumously awarded a certificate from the State’s Attorney’s Office for his heroic actions that day.
