Fire investigators in Prince George's County are looking into the cause of a fire that damaged a home in Lanham Saturday afternoon.
The fire broke out at around 4:30 p.m. at the house in the 9300 block of Kimbark Avenue. By the time responders arrived, the fire had spread to the building's first floor. At one point, firefighters were ordered to evacuate the building due to the intensity of the blaze.
In all, 35 firefighters responded to the report, and it took them 45 minutes to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported. An occupant of the house was originally reported trapped in the basement, but was found uninjured at a neighbor's house.
Investigators believe that the fire started outside the house and spread to its interior. The current loss estimate is $80,000. The displaced occupants are being assisted by the Prince George's County Citizen Services Unit.
