Montgomery County melted down hundreds of firearms used in crimes Thursday to make sure they are never used again.
The majority of the guns destroyed in an incinerator in Clarksburg, Md., were seized from people accused in domestic violence cases.
“Some of these guns do have value, and some of the guns are not as valuable as other ones, but the real value is the fact that these guns could never be used again in any sort of serious domestic violence incident," Sheriff Darren Popkin said.
In another effort to cut down on gun crimes, the county is holding its first event for residents to turn in unwanted firearms with no questions asked. People can drop off guns May 11 in Gaithersburg and Silver Spring, at the locations you see on the screen.
