A four-year-old boy was struck and killed by a Jeep in Alexandria Saturday morning.
An Alexandria Police spokeswoman said that the accident occurred in the 6300 block of Stevenson Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. According to authorities, the boy ran into the street in front of a 2010 Jeep Commander, which was being driven by an 84-year-old man. The boy's mother was also struck by the car when she ran into the street after the child. Both the mother and son were transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his mother sustained non life-threatening injuries.
Alexandria Police say the accident was not a hit-and-run. Stevenson Avenue was closed in both directions Saturday afternoon while the scene of the accident was investigated.
