Our area could set a record low temperature that would break a record more than 100 years old.
It may be May, but areas west and north of the D.C. metro area will be under a freeze watch overnight until 8 a.m. Tuesday. Further west, a freeze warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Frost advisories are in effect from 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. for Culpeper and Fauquier counties in Virginia and Frederick and Carroll counties in Maryland.
Closer to D.C., we might get record low temperatures Tuesday morning. The record low in Washington for May 14 is 41 degrees, set in 1928, Storm Team 4 meteorologist Tom Kierein said, and we may match or break that record about dawn Tuesday.
But don't worry, warmer days are on the horizon. Later in the day Tuesday, we'll get to a high in the mid-60s -- still about 10 degrees colder than the average of 75.
We'll be graced by some much welcomed springtime air by Wednesday, and by Thursday, highs will be near 80 degrees.
