Prince George's County police found the wife and stepdaughter of a man in custody dead inside their Laurel home following a barricade situation Monday.
Police, including SWAT, went to the home in the 16100 block of Malcolm Drive after a man called police about 10 a.m. saying he killed his family and threatening to kill himself, police said.
When they arrived at the scene, police received another call from the man saying he was leaving the house without the weapon, News4's Pat Collins reported. Ronnie Lee Rainey, 59, surrendered to police a short distance away from the house.
Inside the home, police found the bodies of the man's 50-year-old wife, Lisa Renee Rainey (pictured right), and 27-year-old stepdaughter, Ariale Chantre Shelton (pictured below), not far from the front door, Collins reported.
Ronnie Lee Rainey also allegedly fired at his 15-year-old son, but the boy ran from the house and escaped injury, Collins reported. The bullet hit the boy's hat but not his head.
The boy also called 911, but it's unclear when.
In a tweet Monday afternoon, police described it as a domestic-related double homicide.
The man met his wife in the Army, Collins reported. Both served as medics and continued to work with the government after leaving the military. They got married 15 years ago.
Debbie Lee, who called Lisa Rainey her best friend for 25 years, called her husband a coward.
“That’s why he’s a coward, if he shot them and he didn’t shoot himself,” she said.
Rachel Gilbrtz, a friend of the boy, said he is a good kid and a good student.
“It’s hard to imagine what he’s going through,” she said.
Police cordoned off about a block of the tree-filled neighborhood. Drivers will want to avoid the area.
