If you prefer to get around on two wheels, the nation’s capitol is the place to be.

Washington, D.C., is ranked the sixth most bikeable big city in the U.S., according to Bike Score.

The website looked at several factors, including the number of commuters who ride bikes, the number of bike-friendly trails and lanes, and bike-share programs.

Portland, Ore., is first on the list of cities with populations of 500,000 or more.  Arlington, Va., is listed among the most bikeable smaller cities.

Studies show, overall, bicycle commuting grew 47 percent between 2001 and 2011. In bike-friendly cities, it jumped 80 percent.
