A 25-year veteran of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) police force was shot and killed by his wife Friday night in Sterling.
MWAA spokesman Rob Yingling confirmed that Corporal Steven Spradling, 52, was the victim of the shooting, which happened in the 21700 block of Blossom Drive around 9 p.m. Friday. Officers found Spradling dead inside the home after responding to the shooting report. The shooting was initially characterized as domestic in nature.
"Our condolences are with [Corporal Spradling's] loved ones during this difficult time," read a statement from Yingling.
News4's Julie Carey reported that Spradling's wife has been charged with first-degree murder. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has identified her as 42-year-old Rosangela Spradling. She is currently being held without bond at the Loudoun County Detention Center.
Investigators say that two children were in the house at the time of the shooting and are now staying with family friends. Neither child was harmed in the shooting. It was not clear how the children were related to the couple.
