Police in Arlington County are investigating how two thieves broke into an ATM at a sports bar in Crystal City early Sunday morning.
The theft took place at the Crystal City Sports Pub at 529 South 23rd Street. Investigators believe it happened sometime after 2 a.m., when the bar finished its Saturday night hours of operation. They say that the two thieves managed to enter through the front door without tripping the restaurant's alarm system or motion detectors.
Once they were inside the restaurant, authorities say the two went straight for the ATM, cutting it open with some kind of power tool before making off with an undisclosed amount of money.
Workers installed a new ATM Sunday morning and security was upgraded. Restaurant co-owner Art Dougherty told News4 that the job looked "semiprofessional." No suspects have been identified and no arrest has been made.
