Normal service on Amtrak has been restored after a person was fatally struck by a train Sunday morning near the New Carrollton station.
An Amtrak spokesperson said that Amtrak train 152 hit the person just south of the station at around 8:20 a.m. The train, which was carrying 209 passengers, had just left Union Station and was bound for New York City.
No identifying information about the person struck was immediately available.
The spokesperson said that single-tracking was in effect for about 8 miles in the area of the collision. 30 minute delays were expected.
At 12:50 p.m., Amtrak tweeted that normal service between Washington and New Carrollton had been restored.
