For some, Memorial Day weekend isn't complete without a trip to the pool, but opening day came a little later than many in Prince William County expected.
County officials initially planned to open the outdoor pools to the public Saturday, but they decided to keep them closed, citing the cooler temperatures.
The pools were kept closed on Sunday, too.
On the county website, Prince William County Parks and Recreation officials said they'd let the public know by Sunday evening whether they'd open on Monday. By late afternoon Monday, the site remained unchanged.
Parents were left wondering if the pools would be open.
"My kids look forward to this," Julie Poole said. "I save for it every year. And how could you not tell ... any of us?"
Julia kept checking the site on her phone before finally calling around to each pool.
"I started calling around 7 a.m.," Poole said. "And I kept calling until 9:15 a.m., and I found out Splashdown was open ... and came."
County officials told us they couldn't update their website, hence the misunderstanding.
Even though it's been delayed, Poole's just glad her kids can finally jumpstart their summer.
"We look forward to this every year, and the beginning has been disappointing, but we're hoping to make it better," she said.
