A teen who went swimming at Scott's Cove in North Laurel, Md., Monday afternoon was pulled out of the water after 7 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 15-year-old boy went for a swim at the cove in the 11000 block of Henderson Road about 4 p.m., and witnesses said they heard him call for help and called 911.
The Howard County Fire Department coordinated both a water and ground search for the boy, including a dive team from Prince George's County, three boats and a K-9 unit.
The Montgomery County Police Department took the lead in the investigation.
Scott’s Cove is part of the WSSC’s Rocky Gorge Reservoir waterway. Swimming is not permitted. The water temperature was about 50 degrees.
