A woman has died after being rescued from a house fire in Anne Arundel County late Friday evening.
Investigators say that the fire broke out at around 10:30 p.m. at 17 Sumac Road in the Marley section of Glen Burnie. 50-year-old Shari Lee Destafano, was rescued from the basement of the single-story home and treated on scene before she was rushed to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead shortly after midnight Saturday due to burns and smoke inhalation.
Authorities say that 46 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was put under control about half-an-hour after it started. The cause has not yet been determined, and damage is estimated at $10,000. Investigators tell News4 that the home did not have any working smoke detectors.
Nine adults and two children were displaced by the fire and are being helped by the Red Cross.
This is already the second fatal fire to take place in Anne Arundel County in 2013. The first took place Wednesday in Maryland City, killing a man.
