An Alexandria man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday for robbing three Maryland banks during a span of two months.

According to Marcia Murphy with the U.S. District Attorney's Office, 43-year-old Marvin J. Simmons will serve 10 years behind bars, followed by three years of supervised release.

Simmons is responsible for three bank robberies between December 2011 and February 2012. Murphy said Simmons would pass a note to a teller demanding money and threatening he had a nuclear bomb.

In total, Simmons got away with just under $6,000 from the three robberies combined.

The locations Simmons robbed are:

  • Dec. 29, 2011: Wells Fargo Bank, 5800 block Silver Hill Road in District Heights, Md., stealing $3,200
  • Jan. 10, 2012: Suntrust Bank, 5700 block of Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro, Md., stealing $550.
  • Feb. 27, 2012: M&T Bank, 6300 block Kirby Road in Clinton, Md., stealing $2,150.
