The woman who died while riding a motorized scooter in Elkridge, Md., Thursday morning has been identified as Brandy Copeland, 26.
Howard County Police say Copeland, of Elkridge, pulled onto Business Parkway from Roosevelt Boulevard without stopping at a stop sign at about 6:10 a.m.
Copeland was struck by a box truck as she crossed the westbound lane. Investigators don't know whether she was driving straight through the intersection or trying to make a left turn.
The driver of the box truck, 27-year-old Travis Ashbury, was not injured. Investigators don't believe Ashbury was speeding, and charges are not likely to be filed.
Copeland's TaoTao scooter is legal to drive on Maryland roadways, authorities add.
Business Parkway was closed in both directions for several hours while police investigated.
