The first heat wave of the season will come to a dramatic end Sunday as showers and thunderstorms are due to sweep through the DC Metro region throughout the evening and into Monday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning of a strong thunderstorm that would affect Frederick and Montgomery counties in Maryland and Loudoun County in Virginia.

Residents in the path of the storm are advised to prepare for damaging wind gusts, some of which could be between 40 and 50 mph. The storm is also capable of producing small hail. The advisory will expire at 4:45 p.m.

The forecast from StormTeam4 meteorologist Chuck Bell calls for a line of storms to approach the DC Metro area and the I-95 corridor beginning between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. and continuing through the evening.
