A popular Laurel, Md., park is reopening three months after someone intentionally set it on fire.

Residents can celebrate the reopening of Discovery Community Park Monday night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature arts and crafts, playground activities and free refreshments.

Nothing could be salvaged from the March 3 fire at the park, which is located at 1030 Harrison Drive.

Investigators estimated the damage to be around $100,000.

The fire was the first of several suspicious fires at area playgrounds and businesses. No arrest has been made in connection with the Discovery Community Park arson.

"We must stop this evil," said Prince George's Fire Chief Marc S. Bashoor at a press conference back in April. "Arson is a heinous crime that we take very seriously in Prince George's County. ... I appeal to anyone who knows something about these incidents to come forward."

The rash of fires caused more than $600,000 in damage.

Two recent fires have been added to the list of "incendiary" fires, bringing the total to nine.

The city is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the Arson Tip Line at 301-772-7766.
