Nearly six years since his death during a home invasion and robbery, a trial date has been set in the murder of former Red Skins player Sean Taylor.
Taylor, 24, was shot during the invasion and died the following day. Four individuals were arrested in his death and will stand trial either Aug. 12 or Aug. 14. Eric Rivera, Timothy Lee Brown, Jason Scott Mitchell and Charles K. Wardlow all face first degree murder and armed burglary charges. They could face life in prison if they are convicted.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Sean’s father Pedro “Pete” Taylor. “I’d like to thank everyone for their concerns, kind words and prayers for Sean and our family. We hope for speedy trials so our family can get the closure we deserve.”
Venjah Hunte received a 29-year prison sentence in connection with the incident and is expected to testify against the other four involved. Hunte was in the car while the others ransacked Taylor's home. he pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
According to Steven Rosenberg with SMR&Associates, another hearing is set for mid-July before the trial begins in Florida.
