The Army is celebrating its 238th birthday Friday with a number of events across the country.

The Continental Army was formed in 1775 during the American Revolution to confront British troops outside Boston, Mass.

Locally, a wreath laying ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknowns to honor all fallen soldiers. A Twilight Tattoo, an hour-long military pageant featuring The Old Guard, will be held at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall at 7 p.m.

The Army's birthday coincides with Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag.
