News4 spoke with a woman who was stabbed while walking in Northwest D.C.Wednesday morning and police need the public's help in finding her attacker.

She is believed to be one of four women who has been attacked and stabbed with an unknown object during the past couple of months in Northwest.

Each time, an unknown suspect approached a woman who appeared to be alone during the late evening or early morning hours, stabbed or cut her with a sharp object then fled the scene. None of the women were seriously injured, robbed or sexually assaulted.

The woman News4 spoke with was attacked just after midnight Wednesday in Petworth.

"It's a little surreal. I'm a little banged up," the victim said.

The suspect had followed her for three blocks. He then came up behind her in the 1100 block of Allison Street.

"I was thrown into a car," the woman said. "I ended up on the ground on my back and he just started to stab me on my stomach, my arms and up and down my left side."

Police believe the same suspect could also be responsible in the following three attacks:

  • May 5: Woman attacked while getting out of her car just after 11 p.m. in the 400 block of Emerson Street NW. Man approached her, began stabbing her until he saw a man witnessing the incident. The suspect was wearing a dark-hooded track suit with a large horizontal white stripe on the chest and a yellow stripe of the sleeve.
  • June 10: Suspect grabs woman from behind and began stabbing her at 10:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Decatur Street NW. He fled the scene after the stabbing and was wearing a yellow and black shirt with dark pants.
  • June 14: Man grabs woman from behind just after midnight on Adams Street NW. She struggled and was able to get away from her attacker.

D.C. Police are encouraging women to not be alone during the late night hours if possible.

"We are asking that until we identify and apprehend this person that women try to have someone out with you if you're out in the late evening hours. Be aware of your surroundings," Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.

The suspect is described as a black or Hispanic man with light to medium complexion, short brown hair, standing 5'8" to 6'1" with a slim, athletic build.
