Wednesday night proved to be a violent one for D.C., with two shootings and a stabbing that left two people dead and three injured.
At 8:25 p.m., someone flagged down police after finding an unconscious person in the 200 block of 62nd Street NE. The victim, 42-year-old Dawon Markham of Mitchellville, Md., suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Then, just before 9 p.m., a 17-year-old was found with stab wounds in the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE. The victim died at an area hospital.
And just before 11 p.m., three people were shot at a graduation party in the 1200 block of 42nd Street NE. Police say someone retrieved a gun from a car and fired into the crowd. Two men and a woman were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said they have no information on suspects at this time, but they are interviewing witnesses.
With the official start of summer on Friday and temperatures already rising, police are also bracing for an uptick in violence by stepping up patrols.
"Summertime violence... Especially in Washington, it's crazy," said one resident. "...[I was] living in North Carolina for 13 years. Moved up here for five years; I'm ready to leave. Already."
