A 28-year-old man was arrested Monday for attacking two people outside of a library with a machete.
According to police, the two individuals were standing outside of Arlington's Central Library on Abram Street just before 2 a.m. They were approached by a man who started arguing with them, then brandished a machete, severely striking each of them multiple times.
Neither victim suffered life-threatening injuries, but both were transported to a local hospital with significant injuries.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Derrick Sutherland, fled the scene but was captured a few hours after the attack in the area of Wilson Boulevard and North Piedmont Street.
Sutherland was charged with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and is being held behind bars without bond.
