Close to 1000 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha, a historically African-American college sorority, are celebrating the group's 105th anniversary in Baltimore this weekend.

WBAL-AM reports that Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, herself a member of the sorority, plans to participate in some of the events.

The celebration includes community service projects planned for different schools and food banks as well as a panel discussion on human trafficking.

Alpha Kappa Alpha says on its website that the sorority began in 1908 on the campus of Howard University as the vision of nine women. It now includes more than 100,000 members.
