Police in Winchester, Va., will go undercover to catch drivers who are texting while driving.

Officers will use unmarked SUVs during their enforcement operation, which begins Tuesday. Drivers seen texting while driving will be charged.

Texting while driving became a primary offense in the commonwealth July 1, meaning officers can now pull over anyone they see committing the offense.

Fines for a first offense are $125  and increase to $250 for the second.

The Winchester Police Department says drivers are 23 times more likely to be involved in an accident if they are texting while driving.
