The hottest day of the year (so far) has arrived.
Thursday's heat index is expected to reach 108 degrees, with temps likely hitting 97 degrees.
Much of the D.C. region is under a heat advisory today, as it's the most humid day of this summer's heat wave.
Storm Team4 meteorologist Tom Kierein says the region has a small chance of isolated thundershowers later Thursday afternoon, bringing brief relief from the high heat.
This could be the hottest day we see all year, he said.
Last summer, the D.C. Metro area had 11 consecutive days of 95-degree temperatures or higher, while this summer, we have only had six days to date.
Temperatures are expected to remain in the high 90s Friday.
