Nats Trade Morse to Mariners in Three-Team Deal

The Washington Nationals have traded outfielder Michael Morse to the Seattle Mariners in a three-team trade also involving the Oakland Athletics, receiving pitchers A.J. Cole and Blake Treinen as well as a player to be named later in return.

Morse spent three-plus seasons in Washington, becoming a fan favorite. In his most recent season, he hit .291 with 18 home runs and 62 RBis. Yet, with the Nationals signing Denard Span to bolster the outfield and re-signing Adam LaRoche to play first base, Morse unfortunately became expendable.

The trade as a whole is quite interesting. Washington trades Morse to Seattle, where they acquired him from in the first place in 2009. The A's then send Cole back to the Nats, who traded him in December 2011 as part of a package for Gio Gonzalez. It looks like we've gone full circle.

So it looks like the Mariners have taken on Morse. Taken Morse on. He'll be gone in a day or two.
