Tuesday began with a bitter cold morning -- and the day's temperatures likely won't rise above freezing, according to Storm Team 4 Meteorologist Tom Kierein.
It's the coldest day in D.C. in exactly two years.
Temperatures will stay below freezing all the way into Friday. In addition, today the region will have gusty winds bringing windchill values down below 10 degress. This arctic air mass surged into the metro area last night and will only slowly move out of the region over the next several days, keeping Washington much colder than average.
Expect morning lows in the teens and afternoon highs in the twenties.
On Friday the region could get a storm that may produce accumulating snow along with a possibility of some sleet and freezing rain. It's still to early to say how much snow we may get but early indications are that it would be the first measurable snow of the winter season for the metro area.
If your car has an old or weak battery, it may fail to start in the early morning hours. All outdoor faucets should be drained and left open to prevent frozen pipes, which may burst.
