Wizards Avoid Worst Team In NBA History Title

While you were sleeping/thawing out after spending Inauguration Day outside, the Washington Wizards were in Portland facing the Trail Blazers. Jordan Crawford hit the buzzer-beating three-pointer to propel Washington to a 98-95 victory, their fifth in their last seven games.

Yes, the Wizards are still 9-30 and the worst team in the NBA, but by winning that ninth game, they have all but avoided the dubious distinction of becoming the worst team in NBA history. Unless Washington goes 0-42 the rest of the way, the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers will remain the worst team ever. I mean, I know the Wizards are bad, but they can't be that bad, can they? Man, will there be egg on my face when they go 0-42.

Three weeks ago, the Wizards were only one game ahead of the Sixers' record-setting pace from 1972. Now they will look to avoid becoming the worst team in franchise history by winning at least nine more games.

It's sort of sad that this is what makes for a positive Wizards story, isn't it?
