A Maryland woman was killed in a fatal one-car accident early Tuesday morning that snarled traffic on I-270.
Maria Durdandal, 50, of Frederick was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said that Durdandal lost control of her car at about 5:20 a.m., for unknown reasons. Her car slammed into the concrete barrier that separates north and southbound I-270.
The impact was so severe that portions of that concrete barrier broke off and landed on northbound I-270, Maryland State Police said in a statement.
Durdandal was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. State Police said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors, however, speed and driver error may have been involved.
