Police in College Park are investigating two separate incidents: an assault and robbery outside a restaurant, and an attempted armed robbery at an off-campus apartment complex.
The first incident happened at around 3 a.m. Sunday outside the Shanghai Cafe at 7409 Baltimore Avenue. Investigators say that three men armed with brass knuckles and a knife approached a University of Maryland student, punched him, and went through his pockets. The men made off with the victim's wallet and iPhone, but were arrested by a pursuing Prince George's County Police officer. The victim refused transport to a hospital and the suspects were charged with armed robbery.
The attempted armed robbery was reported at approximately 1:15 p.m. at The Varsity apartments, located at 8150 Baltimore Avenue. Investigators say a man armed with a handgun demanded a laptop from a potential victim. The victim refused and scuffled with the suspect, who fled the scene.
Investigators say the man is still at large. He is described as a man wearing a black ski mask, black peacoat, and dark blue jeans. He stands about five feet, eight inches tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds. He is armed with a handgun.
