Robert Griffin III's status for Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns is currently like George Clooney in 2009: it's up in the air. I'm sorry. That was horrible.
Anyways, what can't be disputed is that if he does indeed play, Griffin hasn't had the best of luck against his Cleveland counterpart, Brandon Weeden (who, to my credit, is about as old as Clooney; okay, not quite, but he's a 29-year-old rookie quarterback).
Weeden, the 22nd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, went to Oklahoma State, which shares a conference -- the Big 12 -- with Griffin's alma mater, Baylor. The two first-round draft picks went head-to-head twice in college and RGIII lost both games in blowout fashion.
Last Oct. 29, Weeden threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns in the Cowboys' 59-24 victory over the Bears. Not that it was completely Griffin's fault; he threw for 425 yards.
The year before, Weeden's 425 yards and three touchdowns led Oklahoma State to a 55-28 win. Griffin threw for 267 yards.
Of course, this is the NFL, so none of it matters (so why did I write about it?). Weeden felt the same way when asked about his success against Griffin in college.
"I played against him for the last couple years and we became pretty good buddies when we were training for the whole draft process," he said. "It's a new year. Two different teams. My success against him in college was good, but that's in the past."
That didn't stop some of Weeden's teammates from ribbing him this week. Phil Taylor and Josh Gordon, former Baylor Bears, left an oversized Baylor golf shirt in their quarterback's locker as a practical joke.
