The region had a weather repieve this week, but winter weather returned Friday -- and is expected to remain.

Expect high temperatures in the mid-30s with wind chills in the 20s Friday, said Storm Team 4 Meteorologist Tom Kierein.

The day started off with morning snow and cold winds, but the flurries were mild and ended by 10 a.m. for much of the region.

Parts of the D.C. metro area ended up with a dusting of snow.

Several school districts opened late Friday, particularly in Virginia. Some districts in West Virginia closed, including Berkeley, Jefferson, Pendleton, Hampshire and Morgan.

Temperatures will stay colder than average into the weekend, Kierein said. There's another chance of some snow late Saturday night into mid-day Sunday.

Next week should start off still colder than average, but no big snow storms are on the horizon.

We've only had 1.1 inches of snow this winter at National Airport, which is way below average, Kierein said.
